Steven D. O’Neal

January 30th, 1950 – November 5th, 2024

Steven D O’Neal formerly of Winter Haven passed away on November 5, 2024 at his home in Bradenton with his wife by his side.

He was born on January 30, 1950 in Virginia Beach, Virginia to the late James and Louvenia Bartlett O’Neal. He moved to Winter Haven in the early 60’s with his family and stayed until moving to Bradenton in 2020.

Steve graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1968. In 1969, he joined the US Coast Guard and served 4 years as a Radioman 2nd class. In 1973, he went to work for the PCSO, starting out in communications before moving to Patrol Deputy and then Patrol Sergeant before retiring in 2002. He was one of the founders of the Winter Haven 912 Project, and served as President from 2010-2012.

Steve enjoyed many things. In his younger years he enjoyed woodworking and fishing. After a friend introduced him to flying he got his pilot license, but gave it up when he married his wife Linda who was afraid of flying. He was a member of the Amateur Ham radio group. In his later years, he enjoyed playing golf, planning vacations with his wife, and the beach. His favorite past time though was meeting his friends at Family Billiards for a game or two or three of 9 ball.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David O’Neal. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Linda (Lunkenheimer) O’Neal, brother John O’Neal (Janet), 3 nieces, 1 nephew, 2 great nieces and 3 great nephews. Steve will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial service was held on Sunday, November 24th, 1:00 pm at Steele’s Family Funeral Home.
