The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at approximately 10:30 AM. The two-vehicle crash occurred near the intersection of Country Club Road and Crump Road in Winter Haven, and involved a motorcycle (Suzuki) and a 4-door sedan (Ford Focus).
PCSO deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Witness statements and evidence at the crash scene indicate that the motorcyclist – one of a group of five bikers – was traveling south on County Line Road behind the Ford Focus when the car began to execute a left turn onto Crump Road. The driver of the Ford, according to witnesses, had his left turn signal on. At the same time, the motorcycle crossed over the double yellow line in an attempt to pass the Ford on the left. The motorcycle struck the car on the driver’s side, and the motorcyclist – a 27-year-old Dade City man – was ejected. He was wearing a helmet, but suffered fatal injuries.
The PCSO Traffic Homicide detectives responded to the scene assumed the investigation. The Traffic Homicide Unit investigates all fatal crashes. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
