38-year old Roland Wayne Sharon of Winter Haven was arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on the evening of Tuesday, October 1st.

Bicycle theft might be considered a small crime to some, but we take it very seriously here at the PCSO. Many bikes that have been stolen often belong to children, or elderly folks who use them to get around, or people who may not have the means to own a vehicle and rely on their bicycles to get them to-and-from work.

So while a theft of a bicycle might only be a misdemeanor, it could be a very serious crime to the victims.

On Tuesday, a bicycle was stolen in the Inwood area. PCSO deputies began looking for it, and soon found it in the area of Avenue G NW and 26th Street.

The bicycle was in the possession of Roland Wayne Sharon–someone who is very familiar to deputies. Roland has a 19 prior arrests in Polk County for things like burglary, weapons violations, and illegal drugs. He’s also had four prior convictions for theft.

And Roland didn’t even need a bicycle…he was on a bicycle and towing the stolen one when he was caught.

Roland was arrested and taken to the Polk Pokey, and because of his prior theft convictions, this misdemeanor crime was upgraded to a felony.
