On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Polk County Fire Rescue responded to a residential fire call on Avenue R NW in Winter Haven.
The call came in just before 2:00 pm.
Polk County Fire Rescue, along with Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to assist. Upon Polk County Fire Rescue’s arrival, the fire had already been extinguished.
One patient was transported to a local medical facility due to injury.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office stated that it was reported a vape pen exploded, which caused a fire, and injured one person.
According to the National Library of Medicine, “The exploding battery usually produces small shrapnel-like particles that can penetrate soft tissue. Moreover, the surrounding clothes can be set afire, leading to serious burn injuries.”
Injuries caused from exploding vape batteries can be serious and should always be treated appropriately.
