LURING A CHILD ARREST
On May 10, 2024, LakelandPD detectives were contacted by the Asheboro Police Department in North Carolina about a suspect, Jason Figueroa (age 27), who lived in Lakeland and was communicating with a 15-year-old Victim online in a sexual manner. The Victim lived in Asheboro and met Figueroa on Discord, a social media platform. The two began exchanging explicit photographs and videos. During their conversations, Figueroa was told the Victim’s age, which did not discourage him. Although they never met in person, Figueroa offered to pick up the Victim from school sometime and asked the Victim to find a 10-year-old child for them to have sex with.
On June 11, 2024, LakelandPD detectives arrested Figueroa, charging him with 9 felonies related to luring a child and child pornography.
We encourage parents to remain vigilant in monitoring their child’s online activity. Be nosey; check their phones, computers and gaming consoles for any persons who might take advantage of them.
