More Than 250 to 350 Local Families Served at 10th Annual Brooks Law Group Turkey Giveaway

For the tenth consecutive year, local families in need received free turkeys and other foodstuffs for Thanksgiving during the annual turkey giveaway at Brooks Law Group in Winter Haven.

On Saturday morning, more than 250 to 350 people were served at the annual charity event, where they received free groceriesincluding Thanksgiving turkeys.

Unfortunately, due to an ongoing nationwide turkey shortage, only 200 turkeys were provided this year. Afterward, attendees received Publix gift cards, explained Steve Brooks, Managing Partner and Attorney of Brooks Law Group.

Nevertheless, the event, as usual, received an exceptional turnout with people lining up along Avenue B NW and First Street N. Even before the event officially began at 9 p.m., people gathered along the sidewalk several hours before waiting for a chance for a complimentary turkey dinner.

“It is a blessing of our team of 30 people to serve these families in need,” Brooks said. “It is the brightest day of the year for ushere at Brooks Law Group.”

Brooks started the event more than a decade ago to give back to the community that has supported his law firm. Like any good businessman, he understands that a local business is only as successful as the residents who support it.

“We are so blessed in this country,” he explained. “If we cannot give back to this community that supported us, then something is wrong. We love giving back to our community.”

Freedom Church and Restaurants Against Hunger (RAH) both assisted Brook Law Group during the event. Brook Grant of RAH, teamed up with Brooks six years ago to help with the giveaway. Back then, they were only giving away turkeys, but Grant wanted them to give away more.

“I told him that he was giving the turkey away, and we wanted to give the rest of the meal away,” Grant said. “We love to help support those on the front lines supporting others.”

Grant owes their success these past several years to the dedication of their volunteers. Each year, they do their part to give more and do more, he said.

“As always, great volunteers come out and help us give this thing ready to rock and roll, and it is like a buzzsaw getting everybody through,” he said. “It has been outstanding. No questions about it.”
