Garden Grove Church Breaks Into Fall for 16th Year

by James Coulter

Autumn may be ending, but it’s never too late to break your fall. And for the 16th year, Garden Grove Church has broken their fall with their annual Break Your Fall on Nov. 12.

The local Winter Haven Assembly of God hosted its annual fall festival on Saturday. Several hundred people, both residents and church members alike, arrived to the church to enjoy an evening of free carnival games, bounce houses, and live music.

Each attendee received a ticket that they could redeem for a free hot dog, popcorn, and soft drink. They could also participate in games for free candy, and even ride a spinning ride attraction.

Garden Grove Church has been hosting their annual event every November after Halloween and before Thanksgiving. The fall festival allows attendees to celebrate the autumn season right before the holidays arrive.

This year’s event occurred without a hitch, even despite two hurricanes happening earlier this fall season. The only exception was that the recent Hurricane Nicole prevented the church from erecting their big tent. Otherwise, the overall good weather allowed attendees to comfortably congregate without shading from the tent.

“People have showed up and they have really enjoyed it,” said John Shreck, GGC Youth Pastor. “We have a nice cool breeze. We are excited about the turnout we have, and the rides and the new faces we have seen.”

Break Your Fall has been hosted ever since the current pastor assumed his role. Both the support of the church and the local community has allowed it to remain as successful as it has been.

“[I love] seeing people have quality family time together,” Schreck said. “Definetly love to keep doing this. This is our marquee event this year. And so, we have ways to improve it and to continue doing it.”

Pastor Frank Hawley has hosted the event at his church for more than a decade. He loves being able to provide the local community with a good time to congregate together in harmony and to share Christ’s love.

“Break Your Fall is a yearly event we do here at GGC so we can love on the community,” Pastor Frank said. “All these people are having a good time, they are eating free food, and they are having a good time with friends and families, and we enjoy doing it every year.”
