Auburndale Celebrates Fall Fest

by James Coulter

Halloween may be over, and Christmas is right around the corner, but it is never too late to celebrate autumn. The City of Auburndale allowed its residents and guests to enjoy fall fun with a fall festival hosted downtown on Saturday.

The annual fall fest was hosted at Railroad Park in Downtown Auburndale. Attendees were able to enjoy food served from food trucks, ride around on a train ride and carnival spinner, and bounce around inside bounce houses.

The First Saturday Market of Auburndale even teamed up with the city to allow several dozen of their vendors to sell their merchandise, ranging from handmade crafts to homemade food items. On the stage, live music was performed by Skinny McGee and the Mayhem Makers. Best of all everything at the event, aside from the food and merchandise, was free.

“It is a really fun event that is free to come and free activities,” said Cody McGee, Auburndale Parks and Recreational Director. “All you are paying for is what you buy from the vendors. Whether it is food or merchandise So it is a family fun event.”

This year’s event relocated across the train tracks, providing them with double the space. This change of location, in turn, permitted the event to draw in double the attendees, McGee said.

“We have doubled in size from last year,” he said. “This year,we moved across the train tracks to utilize more of the park and spread us out more, which is great, and everyone is having a good time.”

This year also had the city team up with the Downtown Market, allowing their vendors to participate in the event. The turnout proved exceptional, and McGee hopes their partnership will further expand their outreach through events such as these.

“We teamed up this year with the Auburndale market for the first time,” he said. “They brought in their vendors from their market, and (they were) able to morph into our events, and it seems like it is working.”

The City of Auburndale has several other events planned for the remainder of the year. Next Saturday is Veteran’s Day, and Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. For more information, visit the City’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/auburndalegov
