Local Winter Haven Baseball Team Wins Baseball Nationals Tournament

By Allison Williams

The 11U Khaos baseball team based out of Winter Haven had a fantastic season this year. They recently won the championship game in the Baseball Nationals tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Head Coach, Frank Holley says his team had a great time during the tournament and they went 6-1 overall.

“We scored 75 runs,” Holley said. “We had 2 walk-off comebacks. Down 5-0 and 6-1 in the championship game. We won 7-6. Earlier in the week we were down 9 to 3 in the bottom of the sixth inning and then down 9 to 5 with two outs and won that game 10 to 9.”

Both games ended with walk-off hits by player Jaylen-Tofanelli-White. Another player who had a great tournament was Erik Huston. He was voted MVP of all the 11U teams by the other coaches.

Six players were selected to represent the tournament All-Star Game:

  • Uriah Holley
  • Ramziel Osorio
  • Devin Sinha
  • Maddox Rosado
  • Jaylen Tofanelli-White
  • Erik Huston

Coaching staff selected players from various teams in the tournament to play in the All-Star Game. “We had one All American selection, Jason Metcalf and that selection process was the tournament staff and umpires selecting players to participate in All American tournaments throughout the country,” Holley said.

The players and coaches worked hard to accomplish what they did. Holley added, “We had a great time and we’re blessed to have the opportunity to play in front of a lot of our family on a big stage.”

Holley is proud to be a coach and involved in the program. “I’ve been a baseball coach for nine years,” he said. “I simply love being in the dugout and around my players and fellow coaches. It’s a great fraternity. I’m truly blessed. The players, coaches, and parents worked their butts off and bought into our program and stuck together and became friends throughout the season, and they started to play for each other. I think that was the difference maker. I’m very proud of the players. This team will stick together and start practicing in mid-August so we can start competing in September.”
