Winter Haven Man Charged With Assaulting & And Robbing Tow Truck Driver

On June 16 2022, at approximately 1458 hours, I responded to (redacted), Winter Haven FL, this
location is a private residence in reference to a burglary with battery.
(Redacted) Victim stated he was contracted to tow any vehicles on the property without the proper tags that are in the parking lot at the above location. The incident location is a residential neighborhood/ condos with assigned parking spaces.
(Redacted) stated on June 16, 2022 he began to tow a truck from the property at the request of
the neighborhood since the truck did not have a proper tag.
The truck was completely attached to the tow truck when the defendant, later identified as Darren Fielder pulled his vehicle in front of the tow truck to block him in. The defendant then got out of his vehicle and approached the tow truck. The defendant forcefully opened the closed tow truck driver’s side door at this time. (Redacted) stated the defendant then began yelling at him and pulling at his shirt against his will. (Redacted) stated the defendant continued stating he wasn’t going to take his car. (Redacted) said the defendant tried to pick him up and pull him out of the tow truck while attacking him, (Redacted) stated when the defendant was unable to remove him
from the vehicle the defendant forcibly removed the key and his personal hand held radio out of the truck, which temporality deprived (redacted) of his property.
(Redacted) stated he was struck against his will by the defendant. (Redacted) is seeking prosecution in this.
(Redacted stated the defendant threatened to drop the radio and keys in the drain. Value of the radio
is $349.99 and the value of the key is $275.00.
On arrival. I made contact with the defendant who was detained during my investigation. I then made contact with the victim (redacted), see statement for more information on the incident. Video cameras were
located inside (redacted)‘a tow truck and observed on scene. The video observed showed the defendant commit the offenses above that were stated by (redacted). The defendant post Miranda admitted to opening the tow truck door, grabbing (redacted), and temporarily taking (redacted)’s items. An FCIC/NCIC check was completed with no petit theft history reported; the defendant Identification was verified utilizing his Florida driver’s license.
The defendant was placed under arrest and charged with:
burglary of conveyance with battery 810.02(2 A)
Petit theft first offence 812.014(3)(A).
The defendant was transported to Polk County jail without further incident.

Suspect bonded out at $15,250 and is awaiting trial.
