Hearts 4 Winter Haven 7th Annual Golf Tournament

by James Coulter

The folks with Hearts 4 Winter Haven (H4WH) have a big heart for serving the people in their hometown. They showed how much they loved their community by raising proceeds for it through their annual golf tournament.

H4WH hosted their 7th annual golf tournament earlier this week at the Winter Haven Country Club. More than 100 golfers participated in several dozen teams as they golfed their way across the lush golf course.

This year’s winning team was SoftStrong. For team member Joel Norris, this may have been his first time participating in the tournament, but it was not his first time on the links at the club. He loved being able to golf there again, and this time, for a good cause.

“It was a good overall team effort,” he said. “It feels good. Everyone did their part and had good shots. It is good to play for good cheer. Between all the people and the charity that we played for, we had a great time. It was fun. Everyone had fun.”

H4WH is a local non-profit organization that helps alleviate poverty in the Winter Haven community. According to its website: “H4WH as ConnectorHeart for Winter Haven exists to connect all sectors of our city (churches, businesses, non-profits and city leadership) to alleviate poverty, in all its forms. We do this by utilizing a comprehensive community development strategy that emphasizes strengthening families through employability, housing stability, and emotional/mental health support, all surrounded by faith-affirming initiatives.”

Brad Beatty, H4WH Executive Director, boasted about how this year’s event drew in their biggest turnout, making it their best year thus far. He owed their large turnout of attendees to not only playing on one of the “prettiest courses around”, but also to their overall reputation within the Winter Haven community. So many people want to help with an organization that has helped so many in their city, he said.

“Once it opens up, people are signing up,” he said. “It’s got to be known as a really good fun event, so think people are looking forward to it. For the event, we will continue to grow and put on a great event and collaborate with our business community with nonprofits.”
