Two Vehicle Crash In Winter Haven- One Driver Passed After His Condition Unexpectedly Deteriorated

Must Read

On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash around 6:10 a.m. on Spirit Lake Road near Lake Sears Drive in Winter Haven. The two vehicles involved were a white 2014 Cadillac CTS being driven by 21-year-old Michael Hill of Bartow, and a gray 2010 Infiniti being driven by 61-year-old Marvin Gilbert, Jr., of Winter Haven. According to the investigation so far, the Cadillac was southbound on Spirit Lake Road when for unknown reasons Hill lost control and the vehicle began to rotate and slide. It slid across the median and into the northbound lanes, and into the path of the Infiniti, where the two vehicles collided. It was dark and rainy at the time.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles, and both were transported to local hospitals to be treated for their injuries, which immediately following the crash did not appear to be life-threatening. At some point later in the day, Mr. Gilbert’s condition unexpectedly deteriorated, and PCSO was notified this morning that he had passed away.
