Christmas trees, holiday decorations and warming the house on chilly nights can lead to a tragic time for families if simple safety practices are not put into play.

Christmas trees: When picking out a tree, make sure it is fresh. Check that the needles don’t fall off easily. Always keeps trees away from heat. Water the tree and check twice a day that it is properly watered.

Lights: Use nonflammable lights for decorations. Keep lights away from heat sources.

Candles: Never leave burning candles unattended. Make sure candles are secure and in candle holders.

Space heaters: 3 FEET! Make sure they are spaced 3 feet from other things. Never leave on when not home. Keep away from childrens’ rooms.

Also- check your smoke detectors.
