Winter Haven Oktoberfest Makes Epic Return on Oct. 15

by James Coulter

Strap on your lederhosen, grab your mug, and prepare to dance your feet off to oompa music. Oktoberfest is making its grand return this Friday to Downtown Winter Haven.

After postponing last year’s event due to the ongoing pandemic, Main Street Winter Haven is bringing back Oktoberfest bigger and better than ever. If you missed eating sausages and beer during this most wunderbar time of year, be prepared to get your “oomph” back into “oompa” with this year’s event.

“We’re so excited for this year’s Oktoberfest Downtown,” said Bailey McDaniel, Assistant Director of Special Events for Main Street Winter Haven. “We have a new polka band, new German food to fill you up, and plenty of new beers to taste!”

For only $25 per “tasting ticket”, you’ll be able to experience everything that Oktoberfest will have to offer, with access to 40 local, German and seasonal beers—including craft beer from 11 local craft breweries.

An exciting addition this year will be the Wiener “Schnitzel” Dog Race, which will allow dog owners the opportunity to have their small furry friends race for the honor of being named top hot dog! The race was added this year after inclement weather canceled the inagural dog race during this year’s Bark in the Park.

To ensure public health and safety during these uncertain times, special precautions will be taken. Masks and social distancing will be highly recommended, and beer tents have been spaced out to avoid overcrowding.

“Outdoor events are proving to be well-attended this year, and we have decked out this event with the best beers, German food, and music to make attendees feel immersed in the German tradition,” McDaniel said. “We are VERY excited for Brass Heart Band to flood Central Park with polka music this year. Who wouldn’t want to sample tasty beers, eat a schnitzel slider, and enjoy the happy sounds of polka music?”

The 14th Annual Oktoberfest will be hosted Fri. Oct. 15 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Downtown Central Park in Central and South Central Park in Downtown Winter Haven.
