Suspect Upset With His Ex-Girlfriend Shoots 17 Times Into Her Front Door With 4 Children In The Home

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Imare Chandler, DOB: 11/06/2001 and charged him with multiple felonies after he allegedly shot 17 times into her door between Winter Haven and Wahneta area Wednesday night. Here is an excerpt of the arrest affidavit furnished by the PCSO.

“On February 7, 2024, at approximately 2050 hours, I responded to REDACTED, Winter Haven in reference to a shooting. The location is an apartment complex with the residence being on the lower level of a building with four apartments.

On this date, the suspect, Imare Chandler went to the victim, VICTIM1‘s residence where he became upset over hearing another male in the residence. The suspect went under the covered porch which is attached to the building and began to strike the living room window with a firearm, breaking the glass. The suspect was yelling, “stop playing with me hoe.” The suspect then went to the victim’s bedroom window and began to strike it with the firearm shattering the window. The suspect proceeded to the front door where he shot approximately seventeen times into the doors deadbolt. The projectiles entered the residence and striking the wall and other objects within the apartment.

The victim, who was inside with VICTIM2 and four minor children/victims’ VICTIM3VICTIM4VICTIM5and VICTIM6 took the children to a back bedroom for safety and climbed out the bedroom window.

The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle and while leaving struck a parked vehicle belonging to victim,VICTIM7. The suspect did not stop to provide information or make any attempts to report a vehicle crash.

It was discovered that the suspect, Imare Chandler and the victim, VICTIM1 had been in an intimate relationship off and on REDACTED.

The suspect was located and taken into custody. The suspect made spontaneous statements that he shot at the door.  A Post Miranda interview was conducted with the suspect, who provided information that he did strike the windows and fired numerous times into the door.

Based upon the investigation, recorded interview with the victims, and suspect’s confession he was charged with Armed Burglary with Assault/Battery, Aggravated Child Abuse, Shooting into Building, Criminal Mischief GT 200 LT 1000, and Use/Display Firearm during a Felony Offence, and Discharging a Firearm in Residential Area.”
