Lake Wales, Florida – Our Children’s Academy of Lake Wales is very proud to announce the beginning of a new chapter in it’s school. Distinguished dignitaries such as state Senator Kelly Stargel, state House Representative Mike LaRossa, Lake Wales Mayor Eugene Fultz, businessman and philanthropist Ben Hill Griffin III, Vic Story, Pat Cain, John Updike and many others were on hand to break ground for the new campus. The new campus is being built on 7.62 acres West of High Point Church on Burns Ave.

Our Children’s Academy Lake Wales is a place where children with special needs overcome daily challenges and enjoy success in learning and living. Currently the school has over two hundred and thirty students and is growing. Classes range from pre k-9 and they recently expended their charter and will have go to 12th grade.

The site construction will be done by Tucker Construction from Winter Haven. The main building in phase I will be provided by Modular Building Systems International. Due to the construction being done with a modular design the campus should be ready to open by August when 2016-17 school begins. The building is designed to resist a category 5 hurricane. The site will be able to host the schools therapy facilities including therapy gardens, Horse therapy and also a playground.

Principal Steve Whitaker advised that the school would continue temporarily a partnership with High Point Church to house 3 portables that are currently on the property. He took extra time to thank the church pastor, Jack Hilligoss, for the partnership the school has had with the church over the last several years. Whitaker also made special mention of Mr. Ben Hill Griffin III who has been a longtime and ardent supporter of the school and special needs children.
